A home water distiller is one of the simplest purification appliances in design and one of the most effective in output. Understanding the process demystifies the product and explains why it costs what it costs to operate.
Step one: you fill the stainless steel boiling chamber with tap water — typically 4 liters (about 1 gallon). The heating element at the base of the chamber heats the water to boiling (212°F / 100°C).
