Cold water supply connection
The KHT100SS tank connects to the cold water supply via a saddle valve (included) installed on the cold water supply line under the sink. Drill a 1/4-inch hole in the cold supply pipe using the saddle valve drill guide. Clamp the saddle valve over the hole and tighten the saddle bolts. Connect the 1/4-inch OD supply tubing from the saddle valve to the tank cold inlet. Note: some plumbing codes prohibit saddle valves -- check local code before installation. An alternative connection method uses a T-valve compression fitting at the angle stop valve outlet (same method as for a refrigerator water supply) and avoids the saddle valve entirely.
Electrical requirements
The KHT100SS tank requires a standard 120V / 15A grounded outlet under the sink. Most kitchen sink cabinets include a GFCI outlet for the garbage disposal or dishwasher -- verify available circuit capacity before using this outlet for the hot water tank (a 1500W tank at 120V draws 12.5A; a garbage disposal simultaneously draws 5-10A -- the combined draw exceeds the 15A circuit rating). If the existing under-sink outlet is shared with the disposal, have an electrician install a dedicated 15A circuit under the sink for the hot water tank. GFCI protection is required by the NEC for under-sink outlets.
Faucet installation and first use
The KHT100SS faucet mounts through a 1-3/8-inch hole at the sink deck. Most kitchen sinks have a pre-drilled hole for a soap dispenser or optional side spray -- the KHT100SS faucet fits this hole directly. Thread the supply tube from the faucet down through the hole, connect to the tank hot outlet, and secure the faucet with the mounting nut. After all connections are made: open the cold supply valve. Allow the tank to fill (you will hear water entering and then stop -- approximately 2-3 minutes). Power on the unit. The heating indicator light illuminates. Allow 10-15 minutes for the tank to reach setpoint temperature. Draw and discard the first cup of hot water (contains any residual manufacturing particles). The system is ready for use.
