First Use: Pre-Rinse and Initial Fill

Remove the filter cartridge from its sealed packaging. Hold the filter under cold running water for 15 seconds to pre-wet the carbon media. Shake gently to remove air from the filter housing, then allow to drip briefly. Insert the filter into the lid housing -- push until fully seated. Fill the bottle with cold tap water. Take 2 to 3 full sips through the nozzle to prime the filter and flush any residual carbon fine particles. The water may have a faint carbon smell on the first sip; this clears after the initial priming draw. The bottle is ready for regular use after this initial fill.

Daily Use: Tips for Consistent Water Quality

Always use cold or room-temperature water in the GE filtering bottle -- hot water damages the activated carbon media and the plastic bottle body. Refill with fresh tap water regularly; do not leave water in the bottle for more than 24 hours without drinking and refilling. In cold climates or refrigerator storage, the filter media may slow slightly as temperature drops -- this is normal and the flow rate returns to normal as the filter warms slightly from contact with the warm water in the bottle after filling.

Filter Replacement

Replace the GE bottle filter after 40 gallons of use or every 2 months, whichever comes first. To replace: open the lid, twist or press the release on the filter cartridge, and pull it out of the filter housing. Dispose of the old cartridge in household waste -- the activated carbon is non-toxic and landfill-safe. Pre-rinse the new cartridge for 15 seconds, insert, and resume use. Mark the replacement date on the bottle base or set a recurring phone reminder to maintain the 2-month change schedule without relying on taste degradation as the indicator.
