Fixed showerhead installation
Remove the existing showerhead from the shower arm. Clean the arm threads. Apply 3 wraps of Teflon tape clockwise around the threads. Thread the Glacier Bay showerhead clockwise by hand until snug. Apply one quarter-turn with an adjustable wrench (cloth-protected). Turn on the water and test all spray settings. If a setting produces no flow, remove the showerhead and flush the inlet for 30 seconds to clear any debris from the mode mechanism, then reinstall and retest.
Combo unit installation
Glacier Bay's handheld combo units use a 2-position diverter at the arm connection. Thread the diverter body onto the arm (Teflon tape applied). Connect the overhead showerhead to the top of the diverter. Connect the handheld hose to the bottom diverter port (Teflon tape at both hose connection points). Mount the handheld wall bracket -- either on the wall with the included screw and anchor, or use the suction cup if tile drilling is not permitted. Test both diverter positions: the diverter switch should produce clean cutoff to each head with no cross-leak in either position.
Flow restrictor notes
Glacier Bay showerheads ship with a flow restrictor pre-installed at 2.5 GPM (federal maximum). Some models for California ship at 1.75 GPM. If flow feels weak after installation, check for a restrictor inside the inlet -- a small plastic disk accessible with needle-nose pliers after removing the showerhead from the arm. Remove if your jurisdiction permits 2.5 GPM and the restrictor is below 2.5 GPM. Note: Glacier Bay does not warranty performance without the restrictor, and removing it may void the limited warranty in some jurisdictions.
Finish protection during install
Glacier Bay's chrome and brushed nickel finishes are thinner platings than mid-market brands. Protect the finish by: (1) always using a cloth or tape between any tool and the showerhead body, (2) never using channel-lock pliers directly on the body -- use only the connection nut, and (3) wiping fingerprints from the body with a dry cloth after installation. The thinner plating is more susceptible to scratching from metal contact than Moen or Pfister finishes.
