Pelican replacement filters for the PRO-RO are sold exclusively through pelicansystems.com (Pelican's direct website) and by phone through Pelican customer service. Unlike APEC and iSpring, Pelican does not sell through Amazon -- this is a deliberate channel choice. The advantage: genuine filters guaranteed, no third-party counterfeits possible, phone support when ordering. The disadvantage: no Prime shipping, and delivery times run 3-5 business days from Pelican's warehouse. Plan filter replacements in advance -- ordering a replacement on the day the LED indicator turns red may leave you 5 days without optimal filtration.
PRO-RO filter replacement schedule
| Stage | Filter type | Pelican part number | Interval | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | 5-micron PP sediment pre-filter | PRO-RO-SED or F5-10 | 6-12 months | $15-$20 |
| Stage 2 | 10-micron carbon block pre-filter | PRO-RO-CB10 or F-CB10 | 6-12 months | $18-$25 |
| Stage 3 | 5-micron carbon block pre-filter | PRO-RO-CB5 or F-CB5 | 6-12 months | $18-$25 |
| Stage 4 | 50 GPD TFC RO membrane | PRO-RO-MEM or TFC-50-12 | 24-36 months | $40-$60 |
| Stage 5 | GAC carbon post-filter | PRO-RO-GAC or F-GAC-10 | 12 months | $15-$20 |
Annual cost estimate: $70-$90 (stages 1-3 set at 12 months + stage 5 post-filter at 12 months; membrane amortized ~$20/yr). For NaturSoft downstream installs, replace stage 1 sediment at 3-6 months -- add $15-$20 for the additional sediment change.
Pelican annual maintenance kit
Pelican sells a PRO-RO Annual Maintenance Kit that bundles stages 1-3 (pre-filter set) and stage 5 (post-filter) at a package discount of $15-$25 versus individual purchases. The kit does not include the membrane (24-month item). Order the maintenance kit once per year and the membrane separately every 2 years -- this is the simplest filter management approach for the PRO-RO.
How to replace PRO-RO filters -- using the metal-collar housings
- Shut off the cold supply valve. Open the dedicated faucet and run until flow stops completely -- this depressurizes the system and prevents water spray during housing removal.
- Use the included filter housing wrench (strap wrench) to unscrew each filter housing counterclockwise. The metal-collar housings require slightly more initial torque than all-plastic housings -- apply firm steady force rather than quick jerking. If the housing does not break loose with the strap wrench, apply a very light spray of penetrating oil (WD-40) to the thread interface and wait 5 minutes. Do not use pipe wrenches -- the metal collars can distort if excessive clamping force is applied.
- After removing the housing, pull out the spent cartridge. Inspect the housing O-ring: should be smooth, flexible, and seated in the groove. Pelican's housings use a larger-diameter O-ring than most budget systems -- standard 10-inch housing O-rings (typically sold as 2-9/16" x 2-3/4" silicone O-rings at hardware stores) are the replacement if the original shows cracking or flat spots.
- Apply food-grade silicone grease to the O-ring before inserting the new cartridge and closing the housing. Hand-tighten the housing until O-ring contact is felt, then a firm quarter-turn with the strap wrench.
- Restore supply pressure. Run the dedicated faucet for 1 minute to flush air and confirm no drips at housing threads.
Membrane replacement procedure
The PRO-RO membrane housing has an end cap (not a bottom-threaded housing like the pre-filter stages). Unscrew the end cap counterclockwise. Pull the spent TFC membrane from the housing -- it should slide out with moderate resistance from the O-ring seals. Insert the new membrane with the brine seal entering first (open U-face toward feed water). Reseat the end cap firmly. After membrane replacement: open the dedicated faucet and run two full tank cycles to drain to flush the membrane's glycerol storage solution. Output TDS will read elevated for the first cycle -- this normalizes on the second cycle.
Pelican customer service for parts
Pelican's customer service line (1-877-842-1635) handles parts orders, warranty claims, and installation support Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Eastern. For filter orders, have your PRO-RO system serial number ready (on the sticker on the manifold body) -- the Pelican system pulls the exact OEM part numbers for your specific system version and confirms compatibility before shipping. This eliminates the ambiguity of ordering replacement parts by model number alone, which can result in incorrect part shipments for systems produced in different manufacturing runs.
