Kohler sells bidet products across three distinct categories with different installation requirements. Selecting the wrong installation expectation is the most common source of customer frustration with Kohler bidet products. Identify the product type first.
C3 Bidet Seat series (C3-050, C3-200, C3-230, C3-650)
The C3 series is a bidet seat that replaces an existing toilet seat. Installation is a standard DIY procedure -- 30-45 minutes with a screwdriver, adjustable wrench, and the included hardware.
- Shut off the toilet shutoff valve and flush to drain the tank.
- Remove the existing toilet seat and set aside.
- Mount the Kohler C3 mounting plate to the toilet bolt holes.
- Install the included brass T-valve at the shutoff valve; connect the bidet supply hose.
- Slide the C3 seat onto the plate until it locks.
- Restore water, check connections, plug into a 110V GFCI outlet.
The C3 seat requires a 110V GFCI outlet within 4 feet of the toilet. If no outlet is present, installation cost increases by the electrician fee ($100-200 for a new bathroom outlet).
Veil Intelligent Toilet (K-5401 / K-8298) and Numi 2.0 (K-4709)
The Veil Intelligent and Numi 2.0 are complete smart toilets -- not bidet seats. Installation requires removing the existing toilet and roughing in both water and electrical supply at the toilet location before the new unit can be installed.
- Plumbing: Standard 3/8" supply and 3" or 4" drain rough-in. A licensed plumber is recommended for rough-in verification and toilet setting -- 1-2 hours of plumber time.
- Electrical: A dedicated 15A 120V GFCI circuit is required at the toilet location -- not a shared bathroom circuit. This requires a licensed electrician if the circuit does not exist. Electrical work adds $200-400 to the installation cost.
- Total installation time: 2-4 hours for an experienced plumber-electrician team; longer if electrical rough-in is new.
Veil Wall-Hung Smart Toilet (K-5401-CBV-0 and variants)
The wall-hung Veil Smart requires an in-wall carrier system. Kohler specifies the Geberit Duofix or In-Wall frame as the compatible carrier. Installation requires:
- Geberit Duofix or equivalent carrier frame set in the wall at rough-in (requires a rough-in plumber)
- Tile or wall finish completed around the carrier frame before the toilet bowl is hung
- A licensed plumber to connect and set the wall-hung bowl to the carrier frame
- A dedicated 120V GFCI circuit at the wall location (licensed electrician)
Wall-hung installation is a multi-trade project. Budget 4-8 hours total across plumber, electrician, and tile/finish work.
Cost summary
- C3 bidet seat DIY install: $0 labor (self-install); $100-200 if GFCI outlet is new
- Veil Intelligent / Numi 2.0 install: $300-600 including plumber and electrician
- Veil Wall-Hung install: $800-1,500+ depending on existing rough-in condition and tile work
