The Whirlpool Hybrid Heat Pump line uses the same AO Smith heat pump platform as the older Voltex generation. Limited US retail availability now — Lowe\'s sometimes discounts these aggressively as AO Smith pushes buyers toward current Voltex and State Premier Hybrid.
Hybrid Heat Pump lineup
How it works
Small compressor and evaporator (like AC in reverse) extract heat from ambient air and pump into the tank. Resistance backup elements fire when heat pump can\'t meet demand. Delivers 2.8-3.0 UEF — older platform; current Voltex / Premier Hybrid hit 3.45 UEF.
Modes
- Hybrid: heat pump primary, resistance backup. Default
- Heat Pump Only: max efficiency, slow recovery
- Electric Only: resistance only (cold ambient)
- Vacation: minimum heating
Vs current AO Smith Voltex / State Premier Hybrid
| Whirlpool UE6T-H | AO Smith Voltex / State Premier Hybrid | |
|---|---|---|
| UEF | 2.8-3.0 | 3.45 |
| Warranty | 10 years | 10 years |
| Platform age | 2014-2022 (older) | 2020-present (current) |
| Lowe\'s availability | Limited / clearance | Current stock |
| Typical price (66-gal) | $1,599-1,999 (sometimes discounted) | $1,849-2,249 |
If Lowe\'s has a discounted Whirlpool UE6T-H, the platform is older but still Energy Star and IRA-eligible. The lower UEF (2.8 vs 3.45) means ~15-20% higher operating cost than current Premier Hybrid.
Install requirements
Same as current Voltex / Premier Hybrid: 240V 30A circuit, 700+ cubic feet air space, condensate drain, ambient 40°F+.
IRA tax credit
Eligible for 30% federal tax credit up to $2,000. Plus state/utility rebates in some markets.
Bottom line
If Lowe\'s has the Whirlpool Hybrid significantly discounted, it\'s a value heat pump pick — older platform but still IRA-eligible. For current AO Smith manufacturing, choose Voltex (AO Smith Signature) or State Premier Hybrid at the same Lowe\'s.
