Atwood\'s drain plug is plastic and Atwood-specific (NOT the same as Suburban\'s anode rod port). The plug threads degrade over time and need periodic replacement.
Replacement procedure
- Drain tank fully via the old plug
- Inspect plug threads for stripping or cracking
- Clean tank threads with a small brush
- Apply Teflon tape to new plug (3-4 wraps)
- Install hand-tight plus ¼-turn — DO NOT overtighten (cracks the plastic)

- OEM plastic drain plug: $3-8
- Aftermarket: $2-5
- Bulk pack (10): $25-40
Critical: don\'t use a brass anode rod
Don\'t replace the Atwood plastic plug with a brass anode rod (which is what fits Suburban). The Atwood aluminum tank doesn\'t need an anode and the dissimilar metal contact accelerates corrosion.
