Zurn Commercial Toilet Installation — By Form Factor

Zurn commercial install procedures: floor-mount flushometer (Z5675), wall-mount (Z5615 with carrier), sensor-ready (Z5685), light-commercial tank (Z5560). Commercial plumber required for most.

Zurn commercial installation overview

Commercial toilet installation differs fundamentally from residential — requires building-grade water supply, commercial flushometer infrastructure, and (for wall-mount) wall carriers embedded during construction or significant retrofit.

Pre-install requirements by Zurn model

ModelPre-install requirementPlumber required
Z5675 (floor-mount flushometer)1" supply line + flushometer wall stub-out at 16-18" above floor + 25 PSI minimum supply pressureCommercial plumber
Z5615 (wall-mount flushometer)Same as Z5675 + Z1203/Z1204 wall carrier embedded in wall + wall opening for carrierCommercial plumber + construction
Z5685 (sensor-ready)Same as Z5675 + 24V AC electrical (if hardwired sensor) OR battery service infrastructureCommercial plumber + electrician (if AC)
Z5560 (light-commercial gravity tank)Standard residential 1/2" supply line — same as any residential toiletPlumber recommended, DIY-feasible

Z5675 floor-mount install (commercial plumber, 90 min)

  1. Verify 1" supply line stubbing through wall at 16-18" above floor
  2. Verify floor flange at 12" rough-in
  3. Install wax ring on flange
  4. Set Z5675 bowl on flange (commercial plumber two-person lift, ~85 lbs)
  5. Hand-tighten flange bolts. Use level to verify plumb.
  6. Mount flushometer (Z6000 or compatible) on supply stub-out — typically 1.25" supply line connecting flushometer to bowl top spud
  7. Tighten flushometer connection to bowl top spud (1.5" connection)
  8. Restore water supply
  9. Test flush 5-10 cycles for proper operation
  10. Install commercial seat (Bemis 7300 or specified)

Z5615 wall-mount install (commercial plumber + construction, 3-5 hours)

  1. During building framing OR significant retrofit: install Z1203 or Z1204 wall carrier into wall structure, attached to floor joists/wall studs at specified load points
  2. Position carrier waste outlet to align with building drainline
  3. Complete wall finishing (tile, drywall) around carrier
  4. Position carrier supply line and flushometer mounting connection
  5. Mount Z5615 bowl to carrier (per carrier-specific instructions — typically 4 carrier bolts)
  6. Connect flushometer (Z6000) to carrier supply line and bowl rear spud
  7. Test cycle. Verify no carrier movement under load.
  8. Caulk around bowl-wall junction for finish.

Z5685 sensor-ready install (commercial plumber, 2 hours)

Same as Z5675 floor-mount install, plus:

  1. Mount Z6000-WS1 (battery) or Z6000-WS-AC (hardwired) sensor flushometer instead of Z6000 manual
  2. For hardwired AC: electrician runs 24V AC to flushometer location
  3. For battery: install 4 AA batteries during commissioning
  4. Calibrate sensor sensitivity per facility user-presence patterns
  5. Test sensor activation at typical user-departure positions

Z5560 light-commercial gravity tank install

Standard residential two-piece install procedure applies. Reference Sterling/Eljer/Vortens install guides for step-by-step. The Z5560 is the only Zurn commercial toilet a residential installer can install — flushometer models require commercial expertise.

Common Zurn commercial install mistakes

  • Insufficient supply pressure (sub-25 PSI) — flushometer won't fully charge
  • Supply line undersized (1/2" residential instead of 1" commercial) — restricts flush
  • Flushometer wall stub-out at wrong height — accessibility code violation
  • Sensor sensor too sensitive — false triggers from passing users
  • Wall carrier load distribution mismatched to wall structure — long-term carrier failure
