Each Bosch product family has its own maintenance pattern. Greentherm tankless needs annual descaling. Greenstar combi needs descaling + hydronic system checks. Tronic POU mini-tanks need annual flushing + periodic anode rod replacement. Tronic Heat electric tankless is the lowest-maintenance.
Greentherm tankless — annual
- Flush the heat exchanger with vinegar or commercial descaler
- Clean the inlet water filter
- Clean the air inlet filter
- Inspect vent termination
- Inspect condensate trap (condensing models)
- Verify gas pressure (every 2-3 years)
- Test pressure relief valve
- Update Home Comfort app firmware
Greenstar combi — annual + hydronic
- All Greentherm tasks above (descale DHW heat exchanger, filters, vent, condensate)
- Hydronic system pressure check — should be 12-15 psi cold
- Expansion tank pre-charge verification
- Air separator purge
- Dirt separator clean
- 3-way diverter valve test
- Outdoor reset sensor verify
- Visible inspection of all hydronic fittings for leaks
Tronic POU mini-tank — annual + biennial
- Drain and flush the tank annually (10-15 minutes; removes sediment)
- Test T&P valve
- Inspect anode rod every 2-3 years; replace at year 4-5 (or sooner in hard water)
- Check 120V outlet and plug for any discoloration / heat damage
Tronic POU has no gas, no venting, no condensate — maintenance is straightforward.
Tronic Heat 3000 electric tankless — annual
- Clean the inlet water filter
- Verify electrical connections aren't loose (heat from electrical resistance can loosen terminals over time)
- If scaled output (lukewarm or reduced GPM): descale the heat exchanger chamber
- Test pressure relief if installed inline
Frequency by water hardness
| Task | Soft (<7 gpg) | Hard (>11 gpg) |
|---|---|---|
| Greentherm descale | Every 24 months | Every 12 months |
| Tronic POU flush | Every 18 months | Every 12 months |
| Tronic POU anode | Every 5 years | Every 3-4 years |
| Greenstar hydronic check | Annually | Annually |
Bottom line
Greentherm: annual descale is non-negotiable. Greenstar combi: annual descale + hydronic-system check. Tronic POU: annual flush + anode rod every 3-5 years. Tronic Heat electric: lowest-maintenance Bosch product. All maintenance must be documented for warranty defense.
