Bosch Maintenance

Bosch Annual Maintenance — Tankless, Combi, and POU

Annual maintenance for Bosch Greentherm, Greenstar combi, Tronic POU mini-tank, and Tronic Heat electric tankless.

Updated May 2026 · Bosch Water Heaters

Each Bosch product family has its own maintenance pattern. Greentherm tankless needs annual descaling. Greenstar combi needs descaling + hydronic system checks. Tronic POU mini-tanks need annual flushing + periodic anode rod replacement. Tronic Heat electric tankless is the lowest-maintenance.

Greentherm tankless — annual

  1. Flush the heat exchanger with vinegar or commercial descaler
  2. Clean the inlet water filter
  3. Clean the air inlet filter
  4. Inspect vent termination
  5. Inspect condensate trap (condensing models)
  6. Verify gas pressure (every 2-3 years)
  7. Test pressure relief valve
  8. Update Home Comfort app firmware

Greenstar combi — annual + hydronic

  1. All Greentherm tasks above (descale DHW heat exchanger, filters, vent, condensate)
  2. Hydronic system pressure check — should be 12-15 psi cold
  3. Expansion tank pre-charge verification
  4. Air separator purge
  5. Dirt separator clean
  6. 3-way diverter valve test
  7. Outdoor reset sensor verify
  8. Visible inspection of all hydronic fittings for leaks

Tronic POU mini-tank — annual + biennial

  1. Drain and flush the tank annually (10-15 minutes; removes sediment)
  2. Test T&P valve
  3. Inspect anode rod every 2-3 years; replace at year 4-5 (or sooner in hard water)
  4. Check 120V outlet and plug for any discoloration / heat damage

Tronic POU has no gas, no venting, no condensate — maintenance is straightforward.

Tronic Heat 3000 electric tankless — annual

  1. Clean the inlet water filter
  2. Verify electrical connections aren't loose (heat from electrical resistance can loosen terminals over time)
  3. If scaled output (lukewarm or reduced GPM): descale the heat exchanger chamber
  4. Test pressure relief if installed inline

Frequency by water hardness

Greentherm descaleEvery 24 monthsEvery 12 months
Tronic POU flushEvery 18 monthsEvery 12 months
Tronic POU anodeEvery 5 yearsEvery 3-4 years
Greenstar hydronic checkAnnuallyAnnually

Bottom line

Greentherm: annual descale is non-negotiable. Greenstar combi: annual descale + hydronic-system check. Tronic POU: annual flush + anode rod every 3-5 years. Tronic Heat electric: lowest-maintenance Bosch product. All maintenance must be documented for warranty defense.
