Lochinvar AWHP All-In-One Heat Pump Water Heaters

50/66/80-gallon residential heat pump water heaters on the AO Smith Voltex platform with Lochinvar contractor channel.

Updated May 2026 · Lochinvar Water Heaters

AWHP is Lochinvar\'s residential heat pump water heater — based on the AO Smith Voltex platform but shipped with Lochinvar control packages and sold through the Lochinvar contractor channel. For boiler-heated homes that want DHW separated from the boiler, AWHP fits cleanly.

The lineup

  • AWHP-50 — 50-gallon; 2-3 person households
  • AWHP-66 — 66-gallon (volume pick); 3-5 person households
  • AWHP-80 — 80-gallon; 5-6 person households

Why an AO Smith subsidiary sells heat pumps under Lochinvar branding

Lochinvar contractors are typically boiler-and-hydronic specialists, not standard tank installers. They have customers asking about heat pump water heaters for IRA tax credit reasons, and Lochinvar wants to keep that business in-channel. Same Voltex compressor and tank platform as AO Smith Voltex Hybrid, Reliance HPHE, and State Premier Hybrid, but with Lochinvar contractor support and parts channel.

IRA tax credit + rebates

  • IRA federal tax credit: 30% of cost up to $2,000 (Section 25C). All AWHP models qualify
  • State rebates: CA, MA, NY, NJ, OR, VT, WA stack additional $500-1,500 utility/state rebates
  • Best-case stack: AWHP-66 at $1,999-2,399 minus 30% federal + $1,000-1,500 state/utility = net $500-1,200

Install requirements

  • 240V 30A dedicated circuit
  • 700+ cubic feet unconditioned air space (non-negotiable)
  • Condensate drain — gravity or pump
  • Ambient 40-90°F for full heat pump operation
  • Drain pan above living space

When AWHP makes sense in a boiler-heated home

  • You want DHW independent of the boiler (continues during boiler service/outage)
  • You want to claim the IRA $2,000 tax credit (SQUIRE indirect doesn\'t qualify)
  • You\'re planning to switch from boiler heating to heat pump heating eventually — keep DHW heat-pump-based now
  • Long off-seasons (summer) where running the boiler exclusively for DHW is inefficient

When SQUIRE indirect beats AWHP

  • Cold-climate heating-dominant homes where the boiler runs most of the year — SQUIRE inherits 90%+ efficiency for free
  • Tight install spaces without 700+ cu ft air room
  • Very cold basements (below 40°F) where AWHP reverts to resistance backup

Warranty

  • 10-year tank warranty
  • 1-year parts
  • 1-year labor

Bottom line

AWHP is Lochinvar\'s answer for hydronic-home customers asking for the IRA-credit-eligible heat pump water heater. Same hardware as AO Smith Voltex; Lochinvar-channel support. AWHP-66 is the volume pick.
