Rinnai RUR199iN Sensei+ Recirculation Tankless Water Heater
Rinnai RUR199iN Sensei+ Recirculation Tankless Water Heater Review
The Rinnai RUR199iN Sensei+ is the recirculation-equipped variant of the popular RU199iN, adding ThermaCirc360 — an integrated recirculation pump that runs hot water through the cold-water return line on a programmable schedule. Eliminates the cold-water sandwich problem at distant fixtures by keeping the hot-water line warm at all times.
Same core engineering as the RU199iN: 199K BTU, UEF 0.96, dual stainless heat exchanger, 15-year warranty on the heat exchanger. The "RUR" designation versus "RU" indicates the integrated recirc pump; "iN" means indoor-rated with concentric venting. About $2,200 unit (vs $1,800 for the RU199iN base), $4,400 installed.
The ThermaCirc360 system is the key differentiator. Unlike conventional recirculation that requires a dedicated return line plumbed back to the unit, ThermaCirc360 uses the cold-water supply line as the return path. The pump runs hot water from the unit, through the hot supply, back through the cold supply, and back to the unit — eliminating the standby cold water in the hot line at distant fixtures.
Right buyer: households that want endless hot water + near-instant delivery at distant fixtures without retrofit plumbing for a dedicated return line. Wrong buyer: small homes where the cold-water sandwich isn't a complaint (the recirc premium is unnecessary), households with already-installed recirc loops (the base RU199iN serves them already).
