Dometic G10-3E 10-Gallon RV Water Heater

The Dometic G10-3E is a 10-gallon RV water heater operating on both propane gas and 120V AC electric (the "3E" suffix indicates dual energy with the larger capacity). Dometic acquired Atwood in 2014 and the G10-3E is essentially the current production version of the former Atwood G10A-3E. Direct replacement for trailers originally equipped with 10-gallon Atwood water heaters.

Specs: 10 gallons stored, 8,800 BTU propane burner (some sub-models 12,000 BTU), 1500W electric element, recovery rate about 12 gallons per hour on propane and 6 gph on electric. Both modes operate simultaneously for fastest recovery. Aluminum tank (Atwood/Dometic engineering choice — no anode rod required for tank corrosion protection, though optional anodes available for cathodic protection at mounting joints).

The aluminum tank is the Atwood/Dometic differentiator versus Suburban's porcelain-lined steel. Aluminum doesn't rust from inside; the failure mode is electrochemical corrosion at the dissimilar-metal joints (steel mounting flanges to aluminum tank). With proper anode-rod use in hard water or no rod in soft water, service life typically 10–15 years.

Right buyer: replacing a previous Atwood G10A-3E or Dometic G10-3E in a trailer with the existing cutout. Service through Camping World and RV-specific suppliers; parts include heating element, gas valve, thermostat, ECO switches. About $600 unit, $200–$400 installed.
