AO Smith ProLine 30-Gallon Electric Water Heater
AO Smith ProLine 30-Gallon Electric Water Heater Review
The AO Smith ProLine 30-Gallon Electric is the smallest capacity in AO Smith's mainstream electric tank line. Sized for single-person households, vacation cabins with light use, in-law suites with separate hot water, or as a basement secondary water heater for low-traffic fixtures.
Specs: 30 gallons stored, single 4500W heating element (lower position) or dual elements depending on sub-model, UEF 0.93, 39-gallon first-hour rating, 6-year tank and parts warranty. Glass-lined steel tank, magnesium anode rod.
The 30-gallon capacity is at the boundary between primary water heater and large point-of-use mini-tank. 39-gallon FHR is the limiting factor — adequate for one extended shower plus a kitchen sink hot fill in the first hour. For 2+ person households, the 40-gallon AO Smith Conservationist or upgrade to 50-gallon is the better-sized choice.
About $399 unit, $850 installed. Standard 30-gallon electric dimensions (48" tall × 18" diameter) fit in tight closets and small utility spaces where 40+ gallon tanks won't. 30A 240V circuit required.
Right buyer: single-person apartment, vacation cabin, in-law suite, ADU kitchen. Wrong buyer: 2+ person primary residence (insufficient capacity for normal demand).
