The finish is a fired-in matte glaze (not coating or paint), comparable in durability to Swiss Madison and Woodbridge matte black, but with finer surface texture — DeerValley's matte reads slightly smoother under light, with less of the grainy quality some competitors show. Stock availability is consistent: most Matte Black DeerValley SKUs ship within 5-7 days from Amazon, occasionally going back-ordered for 2-3 weeks during high-demand periods but not the 6-10 week delays Horow experiences.
Matte Gray: The Brand Differentiator
This is DeerValley's unique color play — Matte Gray is offered on DV-1F0044 and DV-1F571 (and intermittently on DV-1F52877 Square), and it's the only finish in the value-tier import segment that competes with Duravit's designer gray palette. The color is a medium-warm charcoal gray, distinctly different from black — visible as gray, not "could be black in low light." It pairs particularly well with:

- Black-and-white tile patterns with gray grout

Matte Gray is not currently offered on smart variants. If you want a matte black smart toilet under $1,500, your options are DeerValley smart, Woodbridge BTS-80, or wait-and-see on Horow availability.
Discontinued Finishes
DeerValley ran limited Bone and Biscuit runs through 2022, both discontinued by 2024. The current catalog is firmly standardized on White + Matte Black + Matte Gray. For Bone or Biscuit matching, look at American Standard, Mansfield, or Kohler.
Finish Care Rules
- Glossy White: any standard porcelain cleaner. Lysol, Clorox, Soft Scrub with Bleach, Comet — all safe. Pumice stone safe for mineral deposit removal in the bowl. Steel wool will scratch — avoid.

Matte Gray remains a niche choice — beloved by buyers who already wanted gray; neutral to skeptical for most other buyers. For flip properties and rentals, default to Glossy White. For 5+ year ownership where personal preference matters, all three finishes are defensible.
